The Volusia County Parks, Recreation, and Culture Department has scheduled an essential maintenance operation to fill a sinkhole at Gemini Springs Park in DeBary from October 16 through October 20.
During this period, all parking areas and restroom facilities will remain open to visitors. However, in the interest of public safety, certain areas adjacent to the sinkhole, including sidewalks, will be temporarily closed to parkgoers during the construction period.
The sinkhole initially emerged in 2017, prompting a swift response from Volusia County authorities, who promptly installed a safety fence around its perimeter. Following a comprehensive evaluation conducted by an external geological engineering firm, officials have decided to fill the sinkhole. After a minimum of 60 days, the area will be reevaluated by the County and geological engineers, leading to the final removal of the safety fence.
