Lake Beresford Park, a popular recreational spot at 2100 Fatio Road in DeLand, is set to temporarily close its gates to the public beginning today, Friday October 13 to November 10, 2023, to facilitate the construction of a new train track for the SunRail service extension, a significant development aiming to enhance transportation connectivity to DeLand and beyond.

During this temporary closure period, the construction work will focus on establishing the necessary infrastructure for the forthcoming SunRail service extension. The St. Johns River to Sea Loop trail to the west of the train tracks will remain accessible for trail enthusiasts. Entrances to the trail are located at the Blue Springs Avenue Trailhead and near Blue Springs State Park on French Avenue. However, trail users will not have access to Lake Beresford Park via this trail until construction is complete.

In addition to the new train track, the restroom facilities will undergo renovations to improve the park's amenities and enhance visitor experiences. As the construction work progresses, sections of Lake Beresford Park will be gradually reopened to the public, ensuring safety and accessibility.

For those seeking an alternative nearby park experience, Spring Hill Park at 903 S. Thompson Street in DeLand, is a viable option. Spring Hill Park offers a range of amenities, including a playground, pavilions, and restrooms, catering to residents and visitors in the area.

For any additional inquiries or questions concerning Lake Beresford Park and the ongoing developments, individuals can contact the Parks, Recreation, and Culture Department at 386-736-5953.
