In a significant move to tackle environmental concerns, Volusia County has received a generous grant of $2.2 million from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The grant aims to provide rebates to homeowners for essential septic system upgrades, focusing on the priority area of DeLeon Springs.

The initiative is part of the county's dedicated efforts to curb nitrogen contributions to DeLeon Springs and adhere to the Basin Management Action Plan's requirements. According to the plan, all conventional septic systems within the priority focus area must undergo upgrades to nitrogen-reducing systems within the next two decades.

Homeowners residing in DeLeon Springs' priority focus area can apply to the rebate program, where they may be eligible for rebates of up to $10,000 per existing conventional septic system upgrade for single or two-family residences and mobile homes.

For the smooth execution of the program, the rebates will be paid directly to certified septic system installers and state-licensed plumbers. However, there's a prerequisite for contractors to be pre-approved by the county and permitted by the Florida Department of Health before commencing any upgrade work.

Homeowners can conveniently apply online for the Volusia County Septic Upgrade Incentive Program by visiting the official website at https://bit.ly/VolusiaSepticRebate. Anyone who requires assistance or has inquiries about the program can email Volusia-support@livestories.zendesk.com or call the helpline at 855-582-3973.
