Volusia County Water Resources and Utilities have issued a precautionary boil water notice affecting all Southwest Interconnect Public Water System customers, including those residing in DeBary and Orange City.

The precautionary measure was triggered by an electrical malfunction at the water treatment plant, temporarily disrupting water service in the impacted area at approximately 5:10 p.m. on Sunday, September 17, 2023. Within an hour, crews worked to restore service. However, according to guidelines from the Florida Department of Health in Volusia County, a precautionary boil water notice has been implemented to ensure public safety.

Residents and commercial customers within the affected region should boil all tap water for at least one minute before consumption, including water intended for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes. It is crucial to allow the boiled water to cool before use. Alternatively, the use of bottled water is a safe option. For laundry, residents should let the water run until clear before washing clothes, and ice made through automatic icemakers, should be discarded.

The precautionary boil water notice will remain in effect until a bacteriological survey confirms the water is safe for consumption. Volusia County officials are committed to keeping the public informed and will communicate the end of the advisory through various channels once it is safe to resume normal water usage. Electronic signage will be strategically placed at the boundaries of the affected areas to ensure residents receive notification of the boil water advisory.

Customers seeking additional information can contact Volusia County Utilities Operations at 386-822-6465.
