The City of Orange City is thrilled to introduce its latest initiative, the Hometown Heroes Military Tribute Banner Program, dedicated to honoring the brave residents of Orange City and their immediate family members who have served or are currently serving in the military, as a gesture of gratitude and respect. These banners will adorn Orange City's historic corridor throughout November.

In a heartwarming display of community appreciation, this inaugural program extends an invitation to veterans residing in Orange City and those who have cherished family members actively involved in the armed forces. City officials encourage these heroes to participate in this meaningful tribute.

This remarkable initiative comes at no cost to veterans and their families, courtesy of the generous support from AdventHealth Fish Memorial, exemplifying the city's commitment to honoring those who have selflessly served their nation.

For those interested in becoming part of this extraordinary program, complete details, requirements, and the application process can be accessed conveniently through the official City of Orange City website at Military Tribute Banner Program – City of Orange City (orangecityfl.gov).

According to the City's Website, to qualify for a tribute banner, honorees must meet the following criteria:

Military Service: The honoree should be an active or honorably discharged member of the United States Armed Forces or have given their life in the line of duty while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Residency: The honoree must be either a current Orange City resident, whether through mailing address or city limits, or an immediate family member of an Orange City resident. Immediate family includes spouses, parents, grandparents, children, grandchildren, sons-in-law, or daughters-in-law.

The required materials for the application include a color photograph of the service person in uniform (minimum 5" by 7"). In the absence of a photo, a high-resolution image will suffice. Any images used should be copies of the original, as images will not be returned after use.

Instead of a photo, military branch seals may also be used. Applicants must verify military service with a copy of military orders, ID, or DD214 form. Proof of Orange City residency for the service person or immediate family member is also required, such as a copy of a utility bill or driver's license. It's important to note that this residency requirement extends to those with an Orange City mailing address.

Orange City will oversee the installation and placement of the banners and is subject to availability on a first-come, first-served basis. Banner fabrication and design are the City's sole responsibility, with specifications provided by them. Banners will be used for a single display once produced and installed.

Due to limited pole availability, the program accepts one banner application per household each year. Banners will be installed exclusively on City poles with approved banner brackets. Pole selection will depend on suitability for the program, which may affect the number of veterans honored simultaneously. The City reserves the right to decline banner installation if applicants do not meet the requirements. To fulfill all requests, veterans may only be honored with a pole banner once.
