Volusia County Transit Services Division, the authority overseeing Votran, is eagerly preparing to introduce VoRide, a groundbreaking mobility-on-demand initiative created in partnership with Via. Set to commence operations in November, VoRide is poised to revolutionize local transportation, offering residents a cost-effective, flexible, point-to-point travel experience.
Initially, VoRide services will exclusively operate within the DeLand area, with future expansion plans into other regions. Users must commence and conclude their trips within the designated service zone outlined in the VoRide app. For destinations outside this zone, passengers will be dropped off at the nearest Votran transfer point to continue their journey aboard a conventional Votran bus.
Boasting an attractive standard fare of only $2 per ride per individual, VoRide is committed to delivering exceptional value. The payment process will be seamless, accepting credit and debit cards via the VoRide app. Additionally, children under seven years old will enjoy complimentary rides when accompanied by a parent or guardian. Rides may encompass multiple pick-ups and drop-offs, optimizing efficiency to maintain budget-friendly fares, and wheelchair-accessible vehicles will also be available upon request, exemplifying inclusivity. Each VoRide vehicle will bear a distinctive emblem, and all drivers are vetted Via employees who will have undergone rigorous background checks.
"VoRide isn't merely an evolution in public transportation; it signifies a transit-progressive revolution, offering affordable and convenient options to our community. We are redefining what transportation means to our residents and are thrilled to invite them to experience this transformational service," said Transit Director Bobbie King.
The VoRide app, accessible through both the Apple Store and Google Play, will enable passengers to effortlessly set their pick-up and drop-off points, confirm ride availability, and track the estimated arrival time of their driver. For residents without smartphone access, ride bookings can be made via Votran's website or by contacting customer support.
More information regarding the app and the commencement of VoRide will be available in the upcoming weeks.
