A secure hold at DeLand Middle School was lifted at 3:33 p.m., according to a Facebook post from the school following a tip from the FortifyFL reporting system. All students and staff have been confirmed safe, and plans are underway to ensure the well-being of the students, particularly those needing lunch.

Law enforcement and school officials initiated the hold just before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, as law enforcement swiftly responded, including the DeLand Police Department (DPD) and the Volusia County Sheriff’s Department (VSO), and maintained a visible presence on-site and ensuring the safety of all individuals within the school while diligently investigating the credibility of the tip and assessing any potential threats to the school.

The safety and security of the students and staff were the top priority for both law enforcement and school officials.
