In a harrowing incident on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, emergency services from Orange City Police and Fire Rescue swiftly responded to the scene of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of N. Volusia Avenue and E. University Avenue at approximately 1:06 p.m.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a 2017 4-door Mustang, driven by 55-year-old Robert Bellere of Orange City, was traveling southbound on North Volusia Avenue at an undetermined speed before the Mustang lost control, veering into the northbound lanes of traffic. The situation took a grave turn when a 2017 4-door Subaru, operated by 60-year-old David Robertson of Lake Helen, collided with the passenger side of the Mustang in the outside northbound lane. The impact left both vehicles heavily damaged and stopped in front of 214 N. Volusia Avenue.

Emergency medical services rushed to the scene, transporting Bellere to Central Florida Regional Hospital, where he is in critical condition. Robertson, the driver of the Subaru, received medical attention on-site while his three passengers were transported to medical facilities for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Traffic Homicide Investigators Sgt Brian Kibbe and Officer Joshua Hoffman are asking anyone with additional information regarding the incident to contact them at 386-775-9999.
