In a recent development related to the gun incident at Galaxy Middle School, a second student involved in the Instagram video has been apprehended. Zy'Qwan Stafford, a 14-year-old from DeLand, has been charged as a principal with possessing a firearm on school property, a felony offense.
Detectives identified Zy'Qwan on the Instagram reel after another student reported the video on Tuesday evening. Zy'Qwan willingly participated in the incident and failed to inform school authorities about the presence of a firearm on campus.
It is worth mentioning that Zy'Qwan is also facing charges from the DeLand Police Department in connection with a separate shooting incident reported on May 7. In that case, a gunshot victim sought treatment at an Altamonte Springs hospital for a leg injury. Initially, the location of the shooting was unknown, but Sheriff's detectives determined that the incident occurred in DeLand following an altercation involving a counterfeit $100 bill exchanged for marijuana. It is important to note that this incident is unrelated to the "fake $100 bill for marijuana" case that led to another shooting incident in Deltona on Thursday.
Additionally, the Sheriff's Office has been unsuccessful in recovering the firearm showcased in the Instagram video at Galaxy Middle School. Testimonies from the involved juveniles indicate they stole the gun from another student who had taken it from a vehicle. While initial assumptions pointed to a connection with a gun reported stolen from a car in Deltona on May 5, detectives determined that the firearm depicted in the Instagram video does not match the description of that stolen weapon.
