The City of Deltona is taking proactive measures to ensure its residents prepare for the upcoming hurricane season. On Wednesday, May 17, the city will host the 2023 Hurricane Preparedness Seminar at Deltona City Hall at 2345 Providence Boulevard in the City Commission Chambers. The event, scheduled from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., promises to provide residents with valuable insights and guidance from Spectrum News 13 Chief Meteorologist Bryan Karrick.

Bryan Karrick brings an impressive background in weather forecasting, boasting over 26 years of experience in the field. With his wealth of knowledge, Karrick will delve into the intricacies of severe weather systems, shedding light on their formation and equipping attendees with essential information about the forecast for the upcoming hurricane season.

Deltona's Emergency Operations Center representatives will also be present at the seminar, showcasing emergency supplies and featuring a remarkable Hurricane Survival Kit. This invaluable resource aims to educate residents on recommended items that should be readily available before, during, and after a storm strikes. By offering a tangible visual aid, the Emergency Operations Center hopes to empower community members with the necessary tools to navigate the challenges that may arise during a hurricane.

Moreover, Mel Himes from Mel Himes and Associates Insurance Agency will share general advice during the seminar, emphasizing the importance of reviewing and updating insurance policies to ensure residents' coverage aligns with their evolving needs in preparation for the storm season. Himes' expertise in insurance matters will provide valuable insights for attendees seeking guidance on safeguarding their homes and belongings during potential hurricanes.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the interactive nature of the seminar, as all presenters will be available to answer questions and address concerns. Additionally, attendees can participate in a drawing to win a weather radio, a valuable device that can provide real-time updates and alerts during severe weather events.
