A 24-year-old Deltona man, Nyjawaun Nae’kwon Dunn, is currently being sought by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office after allegedly shooting his 23-year-old brother in the leg while handling a firearm in their Deltona apartment on Sunday afternoon at their residence at 2971 Day Road, where the victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries to his upper left thigh.

The victim initially told Sheriff’s deputies that he did not know who shot him. However, upon further questioning, he disclosed that Dunn was handling a black firearm while seated in the garage, engrossed in watching television and eating Chinese food. The victim, walking in and out of the garage, was exiting when he heard a gunshot, prompting him to fall to the floor in pain and shock.

Dunn immediately assisted his injured brother, alerting their mother in the apartment, and subsequently carried the victim to their mother’s vehicle in the garage before the mother rushed the victim to a fire station off Howland Boulevard for prompt medical attention before being brought to a local hospital.

During the investigative process, detectives observed Dunn walking along Day Road and approached him for questioning regarding the incident. Dunn, however, declined to provide any information related to the shooting.

Based on thorough interviews with family members at the scene and their subsequent investigation, detectives determined Dunn shot his brother and is wanted on multiple charges, including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, aggravated battery with a firearm, discharge of a firearm in public or residential property, and improper exhibition of a firearm.

Anyone with information on Dunn’s whereabouts should use the P3 app for Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida to submit an anonymous tip and assist in the ongoing investigation.
