The crew aboard the Carnival Vista, homeported in Port Canaveral, Florida, successfully saved six men stranded in the waters near the Dominican Republic after their small cargo vessel capsized overnight. The heroic effort unfolded as the cruise ship, under the command of Captain Paolo Severini, altered its course upon receiving an emergency alert from its onboard monitoring system.
Coordinating seamlessly with Carnival's Fleet Operations Center in Miami, the officers of Carnival Vista swiftly changed direction and, to their relief, spotted six individuals clinging to a life raft. Without hesitation, the crew executed a daring rescue, bringing the stranded men onboard the ship. However, the ordeal was far from over, as the Carnival Vista team wasted no time alerting Coast Guard officials in the Dominican Republic about six missing crew members from the cargo vessel. The officials initiated a search for the remaining crew members and advised Carnival Vista to return to its route.
Carnival Vista is on a six-day itinerary that began last Sunday, and today, Wednesday, December 13, 2023, the ship will stop in Amber Cove in the Dominican Republic, as planned.
