Two New Elementary Schools Coming to Volusia
Volusia County Schools will hold groundbreaking ceremonies for the new Edith I. Starke Elementary School and the new Orange City Elementary School on March 8 and March 18, respectively.
Edith l. Starke Elementary School, DeLand - Groundbreaking Ceremony March 8
The school was originally constructed in 1956 and will be rebuilt at its current location in DeLand. The design of the new school will incorporate a new media center, administrative office spaces, art and music classrooms, and bus and parent pick-up and drop-off driveways. The new school will provide space for 650 students in an immersive 21st-century learning environment with new technology and enhanced security systems. The architect for the new Starke Elementary is Song + Associates, Inc., and the contractor is Wharton-Smith Inc.
Orange City Elementary School, Orange City - Groundbreaking Ceremony March 18
The school was originally constructed in 1878 and will be rebuilt at its current location in Orange City. The frontage of the new school campus will pay homage to the existing office building’s Spanish Mission architecture. The design will incorporate new administration offices, a media center, art and music classrooms, a new parent drop-off and pick-up line and onsite parking spaces. The school will support 750 students immersed in a 21st-century learning environment with enhanced technology and security systems.
The architect for the new Orange City Elementary is Schenkel Shultz Architecture, and the contractor is Ajax Building Company.
