Taste of Soul
Corey & Yvette
Our journey started with a vision and on November 17, 2016 that vision became a reality when Taste of Soul opened its doors.
Corey at a very young age started working and landed his first job in a restaurant. He obtained a lot of experience & knowledge about the business. It quickly evolved into a management role. Corey has great passion for the restaurant industry and always aspired to have his own restaurant and give opportunities to others like he once had. Timing was everything and one day he was ready. This hard worker had a vision and God saw fit to put the plan in motion. We had to step out on faith; faith will move you in the direction of goals and dreams. We made some tuff decisions and sacrificed some things, but it was all worth it.
My husband is originally from Deland, Florida, and I’m from Crescent City, Florida. Corey has a large family in Deland. People in the community are very familiar with him, and he’s been a productive and well-respected citizen. We checked out several locations, in Deland and other surrounding towns, but we had to come back to where Corey was rooted in the community. We wanted to have a location that allowed for a diverse group of people to walk in the doors. This turned out to be an exceptional business decision opening Taste of Soul in Deland.”
We are family oriented, consistently striving to deliver outstanding food and excellent customer service. We take complete pride in what we do, so customer service and great food are always top priority for us. It is imperative that employees working here exhibit those same characteristics. It’s not just people that come thru our doors but they are family and friends. They deserve nothing but the best.
If Corey and I could wish for something, and we talk about it often, it would be to have his mother Gala Lee and my father Rev. Fred Clemons be a part of this journey and experience with us. They have both passed away. Corey’s mom was a very good cook, and I can imagine her trying to take control of the kitchen, and my dad socializing and making friends with everyone that comes in the door. It brings a smile to us just thinking about it, and it warms our hearts knowing they would have been super proud of us. My mom Victoria Clemons frequents the restaurant weekly to make sure my sister Zorena, (head cook) continues to produce quality food from her recipes. Zorena started cooking with our mom at an early age and continues to have passion for cooking and baking.
Our parents had great work ethics and instilled it in both of us, and we attribute working hard to what we saw them do, as well as others in the family.
We also thank our children Ariel and Corey Jr, siblings, cousins and friends that work or have worked at the restaurant to make it a success.
