Increase Financial Literacy with Money Matters from the FTC
Each month there are multiple "month of" designations, offering the chance for organizations and groups to celebrate and promote their causes. April celebrates the outdoors with Earth Month, National Garden Month, Keep America Beautiful Month, and National Wildlife Week. It's also Autism Awareness Month, Stress Awareness Month, National Volunteer Month, National Poetry Month, National Humor Month, National Arab American Heritage Month, and others. But April is also designated as Financial Literacy Month, which gives the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) of the United States the opportunity to offer financial advice to all of us. The FTC primarily shares consumer protection information that helps people avoid losing money to scammers. FTC data shows people reported losing more than $10 billion to scams in 2023, marking the first time that fraud losses have reached that benchmark. It's now more important than ever to share information about spotting, avoiding, and reporting scams. The free advice at ftc.gov/MoneyMatters could help you avoid scams as well as multiple other topics.
Whether you’re renting your first place to live, buying a car, applying for a job or mortgage, or looking for help dealing with debt, Money Matters has the tools we can all use to spot, avoid, and report scams as you venture on your way.
