Ethics in Clinical Research

Clinical research trials are studies conducted for new medical tests and treatments, evaluating the effects on human health outcomes. When you voluntarily participate in a clinical research trial with Neurology Associates of Ormond Beach Clinical Research Center, you receive the following:

  • Health assessments related to the study from our board-certified specialists.
  • Study-related medication and lab assessments at no cost
  • Compensation for time and travel
  • Complete clinical trial confidentiality

Neurology Associates of Ormond Beach Clinical Research Center has conducted over one-hundred phase II through IV, Neurological & CNS studies, since 2009. While clinical research is a crucial part of the medical industry, there are certain ethical factors to consider to ensure that the rights of participants are protected and that the research is responsible and respectful.

Here are some principles of ethics in clinical research:

  • Informed Consent: Participants have all the information relevant to the purposes, risks, and benefits before agreeing to participate. They must also have the option to withdraw from the study without any negative consequences.

  • Confidentiality: Participants' personal information and health data are confidential and protected from unauthorized access or use.

  • Risk Management: Researchers must minimize the potential risks to participants as much as possible and provide appropriate medical care if necessary.

  • Beneficence: Clinical research produces knowledge that benefits society, maximizing the potential for benefits while minimizing potential harm to participants.

  • Non-discrimination: Clinical research must not discriminate against any group or individual based on race, gender, age, religion, or other personal characteristics.

  • Justice: The benefits and burdens of clinical research must be distributed fairly and equitably among participants, including ensuring that the population is representative of those in the clinical research trial and that the results of the study are accessible to all who could benefit from them.

Adhering to ethical principles ensures that participants receive respect and dignity with their rights being protected while researchers achieve conducive trustworthy results. By following ethical guidelines, we can continue to advance the field of medicine and improve the lives of people around the world.

At Neurology Associates of Ormond Beach Clinical Research Center, we continuously reach out to improve patient care by exploring current research projects and open pharmaceutical clinical trials.
