Officials with Volusia County Government have announced plans to demolish the old elections building located on the southwest corner of Florida and Rich Avenues in DeLand. Once the demolition is complete, the space will be used to expand the adjacent parking area, while the existing parking lot will be rehabilitated and upgraded.
According to a release, the two construction phases are as follows:
- Phase I: Building demolition is scheduled from May 1 to June 23, with the construction of the eastern portion of the parking lot scheduled from June 6 to August 12.
- Phase II: Construction is scheduled on the western portion of the parking lot from August 14 to October 28.
To allow for the building's demolition, a portion of the parking area adjacent to the building, including the eastern driveway on Rich Avenue, will be closed for contractor use. Throughout Phase I, County employees and the public may enter and exit through the west entrance of the parking lot on Rich Avenue. Once Phase I is complete, the western portion of the parking lot will be closed, and employees and the public will use the east entrance for access during Phase II.
The project's anticipated completion is by October 28, 2023. However, dates may change due to unforeseen circumstances, such as weather.
